How this game teaches, and why

This game teaches math to children aged 7 to 12. The lessons hide inside a transit story. The method follows the research in The Math Academy Way, a book by Justin Skycak. It is the method behind Math Academy.

What should I do?

  • Aim for about ten minutes of play, most days. Regular short sessions beat rare long ones.
  • Check this page once a week.
  • If a skill above says "worth sitting alongside for", sit with your child while they play that skill.
  • A small reward for a punched weekly ticket works well. Keep it small.
  • That is all. The game plans everything else itself.

How does the game choose questions?

Children forget new skills unless they review them. So the game brings every skill back after one day, then two days, then four, then longer. Each review lands before the skill fades. On the map, these reviews are Ruby's Dispatch. One review question also rides along in every mission.

Why is the next mission locked?

A mission opens the next one at two stars. Two stars means your child answered accurately, on their own. Finishing is not enough. This rule stops small gaps from growing into big ones.

How do hints work?

Your child can ask for a hint with the lifebuoy (🛟) button. Each hint teaches a strategy. The game never gives a hint uninvited. After two misses, it shows the answer, has your child retype it, and then asks a fresh question like it. The last memory is a success.

What counts as progress?

The game counts a skill as known only when your child answers on the first try, with no hint. Helped answers still teach, and still earn XP. They just do not count as proof. Missed questions go to Lost & Found. They come back until your child gets them right on two separate visits.

What about the timers?

Timed modes are optional. They unlock only after a skill is already solid. Speed comes last.
